John D. Keyser, Sr., 90, of Wintersville, OH, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Life Line Hospital, Wintersville, OH.
He was born May 6, 1924, in Steubenville the son of the late David M. Keyser and Elizabeth (Stonebraker) Burns.
John was a member of the Wintersville United Methodist Church; Wintersville Methodist Men’s Club for 35 years; Toronto American Legion Post 86; Ohio Patriot Guard District 6; graduate of Steubenville High School; involved in and coached the Wintersville Bulldogs football team; loved to fish and go camping; was a World War II U.S. Army veteran having served his country in the European Theatre of Operations.
He was retired from National Steel Corporation – Weirton Steel Company working as a production planner in the strip steel division. He was also vice-president with the Keyser Silk Florist business with his wife Norma.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, married July 20, 1946, Norma L. (Taylor) Keyser; sons, David (Suzanne) Keyser Jr. of Richmond, OH, Wendell L. (Margaret) Keyser of Toronto, OH, Samuel J. (Dinah) Keyser of Bloomingdale, OH, and Gary A. (Joann) Keyser of Wintersville, OH; nephew, Mark A. (Sheila) Taylor of Wintersville, OH; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and was preceded in death by a granddaughter.
Visitation hours for John will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH. (740) 537- 1234 or (855) 847-1240.
A celebration service of John’s life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 14 at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Welch officiating. Interment will follow at the Ft. Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville, OH, where there will be full military honors by the Toronto American Legion.
