Nancy L. Matthews, 83, of Brilliant, Ohio, passed away suddenly Thursday, July 10, 2014, in the emergency room at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, Ohio.
She was born April 8, 1931, in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth “Betsy” (Sengewalt) Fisher.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers and eight sisters.
Nancy was a homemaker and a member of the Brilliant Christian Church. She enjoyed crafts, knitting and jigsaw puzzles.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Theodore J. Matthews, whom she married December 15, 1951; two sons, Teddy (Merri) Matthews and Joe (Diane) Matthews; a daughter, Cindy Martin, all of Brilliant, Ohio; two sisters, Anna Knollinger and Mary (Richard) Maruca both of Wheeling, WV; six grandchildren, Kelly (Glenn) Mills, Jennifer (Scotte) Elliott, Joseph (Jessica) Matthews, Theodore “T.J.” (Katy) Matthews, Chase Matthews and Evan (Mary Kate) Matthews; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of her funeral services at 2 p.m. with Dr. Marc R. Tinstman, minister, officiating.
Interment will follow at New Alexandria Cemetery.
