Harry Burchfield

Harry Burchfield went to be with the Lord on August 1, 2014.

He died peacefully in his bed, surrounded by his loving family after celebrating his 95th birthday.

He was born July 10, 1919 in Toronto, Ohio, the son of Ray H. and Linnie Morrow Burchfield.

He is preceded in death by his son, David Burchfield; his parents; brothers Rev. Oscar Burchfield of Toronto and Rev. Ray A. Burchfield of Evansville, IN; sisters, Olive Rawson of Toronto and Lois Smith of East Liverpool.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rosemarie “Annie” nee Kalinowski; five children, Cynthia (Bob) Matchett of Imperial, PA, Melissa Burchfield Dinger of Steubenville, Christina (Arthur) Johnson of Twinsburg and Michele (Ira) Joffe of Plantation, FL, his brothers James of Columbus NJ, John “Bill” of Toronto; and a sister, Beverly Gamble of Carollton; four grandsons, Brian Hardwick, Jason Dinger, Thomas Burchfield and Alex Johnson; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was employed by Weirton-National Steel Co. as a power plant dispatcher. He served as an Infantry Sergeant in WWII stationed in Panama and the Pacific. He was a past Vice Commander of VFW Post #5100 and a member of American Legion Post #86.

At his request, there will be no funeral services, but visitors may call at the Burchfield home on Sunday.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Valley Hospice of Steubenville, for their gentle kindness and exceptional care of Harry.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Valley Hospice, a non-profit organization, so they may continue to comfort other families as they have ours.
