LAMANTIA, Joel Thomas, 68, of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at the Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 7, 1946, in Steubenville, OH, the son of the late Joseph T. and Rachel A. (Dallas) Lamantia.
Joel was a 1964 graduate of Toronto High School; member of the Toronto American Legion Post 86, the Dyer Country Club of Toronto and the Ohio Barber’s Association; he served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a self-employed barber, owner and operator of Joel’s Barber Shop for 50 years.
He loved to golf and watch his granddaughter Noelle play sports.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Daniel, James and Edward Lake.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Elizabeth (Lake) Lamantia whom he married February 24, 2005; sons, Chad (Tricia) Lamantia of Follansbee, WV and Jay Metcalf of Austin, TX; daughter, Kara Metcalf of Chicago, IL; granddaughter, Noelle Loren Hays Lamantia of Follansbee, WV; brothers-in-law, Ernest Paul (Pam) Lake of Central City, PA, John David (Kay) Lake of Somerset, PA; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Walt) Coward of Mullville, NJ and Saundra (Bill) Benning of Garrett, PA. Several nieces and nephews and several cousins also survive.
Visitation hours for Joel will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28th at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, OH.
A memorial service celebrating Joel’s life will be held at 8 p.m.. Thursday at the funeral home with the Reverend Father Thomas Vennitti officiating.
