Mary A. DelFiandra, 100, of Steubenville died Friday, August 22, 2014 at Valley Hospice.
She was born April 9, 1914, in Toronto, Ohio. She is the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Hromi Barlas.
Mary is also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. DelFiandra; two brothers, Joseph and John Barlas; and two sisters, Margaret Zekas and Ann Candal.
Surviving are her son, David (Ellen) DelFiandra of Steubenville and her daughter Patty (Denny) Dembrak of Washington, PA. Also surviving are two sisters, Agnes Ferrelli of Steubenville and Eleanor Barlas of Washington, D.C. She had nine grandchildren: Michael (Valerie), Matthew (Jennifer), and Andrew (Wendy) Dembrak, Donna (Steve) Young, Melissa (Andy) Spergel, Meg (Brian) Sprochi, and David (Tina), Annie, and Rebecca DelFiandra. She was “BaBa” to 19 great- grandchildren.
Mary was a member of Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church and its St. Francis Society, worked at the former Hub Department Store and was for many years a “Gray Lady” at the former Gill Memorial Hospital and St. John Medical Center.
Mary was an excellent cook and enjoyed crocheting, card games, and playing the slots. She most of all loved her family and leaves a legacy of loving memories.
Calling hours are Monday 4-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fr. Thomas Nau celebrant. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
