Beatrice Skidmore

Beatrice Skidmore, 95, of New Cumberland, WV, died Friday, August 19, 2016.

She was born December 18, 1920, in Belfont, WV. She was the daughter of Clyde and Mary Belle (Carr) Skidmore of Belfont and later Frametown, WV.

Her grandparents were Sam and Malissa (Pete Rollyson-Francene Dobbins) Skidmore of Belfont. Also John Stanley and Margaret Alice (Adam Jackson Hyer-Hannah Rogers) Carr of Belfont.

Sam’s parents were Allen and Malinda (Lyons) Skidmore, and John Stanley’s parents were John and Sarah Ann (Singleton) Carr. Sam and Malissa’s parents, and John Stanley and Margaret Alice’s parents, were her great-grandparents.

She was a 1982 retiree of Weirton Steel Tin Mill Division with 30 years service. During World War II, she worked at Goodyear in Akron, OH, and the shipyards in Lorain, OH.

She was Christian by faith and was baptized by immersion by Rev. John Cromwell at the First Baptist Church in Weirton, WV, April 20, 1975.

At that time she was active in the church, belonging to Phi Tau Kappa Circle, Star of the Valley Rebekahs and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Panhandle Post. She bowled in the Tin Mill Ladies League.

She took trips on the senior’s bus to Mount Vernon and Arlington Cemetery in Washington and to President Eisenhower’s Home place in KS.

She had three brothers, Wilbur and Nelodean Skidmore, Bivins, TX, Hunter Skidmore, Belfont, WV, and Dallas Sidmore, Belfont, WV.

She had seven sisters, Sylvia Carr ,McConnellsville, OH, Wilsie and Creed Hashman, Heaters, WV, Ruby and Lloyd Boggs, Woodsfield, OH, Betty and Spud Hamric, Glenville, WV, Margaret and Bob Knapp, Copley, OH, Bridget and Jack Chapman of Glenville, WV, and Marie and Jim Chapman of Weston, WV.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Skidmore Frohnapfel of New Cumberland, WV. Her three grandchildren are David Frohnapfel, John Frohnapfel and Beth Frohnapfel Harvey. Her five great-grandchildren are C J, Malachy, Aaron, Emmaline and Emilie.

She loved and spoiled her family, and they loved her too. She will be sadly missed, especially at Christmas time, the most wonderful time of the year.

Friends and family can visit at the Nixon Funeral Home in New Cumberland Sunday, August 21, 2016, from 3-5 p.m. A funeral service will be held there Monday, August 22, 2016 at 11 a.m.

Burial will be in the New Cumberland Cemetery.
