KINNEY, Mildred Caroline (nee: McNinch), 94, of Richmond, OH, passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, after a brief illness.

Born on the family farm, June 15, 1922, in Florence, PA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Ross and Emma Virginia (Rockwell) McNinch.

She graduated with honors from Union High School, Burgettstown, PA, and more recently took classes at EGCC in Steubenville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Eleanor Searles, Gladys Crupe, Anne Kinney, William McNinch, and an infant brother; her husband of 62 years, Harold W. Kinney, a grandson, Richard Adams, two great- grandchildren, and a son-in-law, Stephen Reynolds.

She is survived by six children: H. Lee Kinney, Wintersville, OH, Carole Kinney and James Chung (Cheryl) Kinney of Richmond, Glenda (Charles) Kelley, Sharon Reynolds and Janeen Kinney, all of Snellville, GA; nine grand children, 11 great- grand children, four great- great- grandchildren, and brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Florence Kinney of Sarasota, FL.

Mildred and sister Anne married brothers, Harold and Edwin, resulting in 13 double first cousins making an especially large, happy family, along with other close cousins, too.

After her family was mostly raised, Mid began a long career with the USPS.

After earning highest marks on the Civil Service examination, she was appointed Richmond’s Postmaster by President Lyndon B. Johnson.

One hallmark of her Postmaster years is the fact that she wrote and individually answered every letter that the Richmond Post Office received addressed to “Santa Claus.”

She was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Richmond Post 740, Honored Seven.

She has been a devoted and active member of the Richmond United Presbyterian Church where she broke the “glass ceiling” by being elected the first ever woman Elder.

Friends may call at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 110 West Main St., Richmond Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11a.m. in the Richmond United Presbyterian Church officiated by Pastor Richard Cunningham and by family cousin, Reverend David Stokes.
