MCAFEE, James Thomas, of Ventura, California, passed away after a short illness on Monday, Dec. 26, 2016.

Jim was born on April 16, 1937, in Steubenville, Ohio, to Samuel McAfee and Eileen Van Dyne.

At a young age, Jim enlisted in the USMC and proudly served his country from 1956 to 1959 where he served with his lifelong friend, Robert Arends.

Jim was married, while serving in the military, to Carol Shoemaker. Jim and Carol had three children: Edward, Stuart “Randy”, and Wendy.

Jim returned to Ohio where he was employed by the Ohio Power Company. In 1971, while still in Ohio, Jim married the woman he would spend the rest of his life with, Roberta Cicone. They had one son, James Sean. In 1979, they moved to Ventura, California, where Jim continued in the Telecommunications field working at Union Oil Company.

Through the years, Jim was an avid fisherman and coached Little League. Jim made an impact not only with his family but also on the local community where he was fondly known as Mr. Mac.

James retired in 2001 from Tosco Corp. (formerly Union Oil) where he worked with his best friend, Dan Beelman, and continued to fish Lake Casitas a few times a week joined by friends, his sons, and grandsons.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife Roberta, his four children: Ed, Randy, Wendy, Jimmy and his six grandchildren: Ryan, Shamus, Aimee, Garrett, Desiree, and Jasmine. We wish to thank Livingston Memorial Hospice for their care and compassion. His remains were donated to Science Care of Long Beach.

There will be a Military Service at Riverside National Cemetery on 2/17/17 followed by a Celebration of Life on 2/18/17 in his hometown of Ventura.
