FAIR, John Joseph, 65, of Weirton, WV, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA after a lengthy illness.

Born on June 23, 1951, in Steubenville, OH, John was the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Ford) Fair.

John, a humble, soft spoken man, graduated from Weir High School in 1969, Ohio Valley School of Nursing in 1973 and Shadyside Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia in 1976 where he earned his CRNA. He also earned his BSN and MSN from La Roche College.

John joined the Shadyside Hospital Anesthesia staff in 1976 and was employed at Shadyside as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for 41 years. A published author in the Nurse Anesthesia Journal, John lectured and taught in Nurse Anesthesia programs but spent most of his career in the operating room. He loved clinical work.

Although John had a lengthy career in the medical field, he was equally passionate about his longtime involvement with the Boy Scouts of America. John was devoted and committed to the Boy Scouts, serving as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 334 in Weirton, WV. Over the years, he would use his vacation time from the hospital to accompany boys to summer camp at the Fort Steuben Scout Reservation.

John was a member of the Weirton First Church of the Nazarene. John’s other interests included the Tri-State Area Wine Club and the Fort Steuben Street Rod Club (He loved his 1967 white El Camino).

John is survived by his loving wife, Christina (Unger) Fair who he met while each were attending nurse anesthesia training and were married on April 3, 1976; loving father of David and Rose Fair ; loving grandfather of Adam Michael Fair, all of Weirton. John is also survived by three brothers, Harry Fair of Raleigh, NC; William “Bill” (Antoinette) Fair of Weirton, WV; and Robert “Bob” (Shirley) Fair of Osprey, Fl.

In compliance with John’s wishes his body will be cremated under the care of Greco Hertnick Funeral Home of Weirton, WV.

There will be no visitation or service.

John and his family would like donations in his memory to go to help needy Boy Scouts attend summer camp at the Fort Steuben Scout Reservation.
