Christ DeSander

Christ F. DeSander, 94, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017, at Villa Vista Nursing Home in Steubenville, Ohio.

He was born June 15, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Pa., a son of the late John and Theresa (DiAngelo) DeSander. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gilda A. DeSander on April 25, 2014 and two sisters, Delores Cantafio and Louise Pici.

Christ worked as a parts department manager at the former Twin State Motors in Steubenville. He then worked for Anthony Mining as a parts manager before retiring in 2005. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Karen (William) Morris of Steubenville, Ohio, Michelle Tipton of Mingo Junction, Ohio and Yvonne (Paul) Shuman of Franklin, N.C.; a son, John DeSander of Mingo Junction, Ohio; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Wheeler Funeral Home on Monday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. On Tuesday, there will be viewing at St. Agnes Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10 a.m., with Fr. James M. Dunfee as celebrant. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Mingo, with Military Honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Squad.

There will be a vigil service on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
