Susan M. Probert

Susan Marie Probert, 67, of Cincinnati, OH, formerly of Steubenville, OH, fought a long, courageous battle with cancer, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Cincinnati, OH on Saturday, September 23, 2017.

She is preceded in death by her parents Dean B. and Bertha M. Probert of Steubenville, OH.

She is survived by her loving husband, Neal Watzman of Cincinnati, OH; stepchildren, Joshua (Bethany Meloche) Watzman of London, England, and Sarah Watzman of Columbus, OH; sisters, Kathy (Archie) Lowe of Steamboat Springs, CO, Diane Probert (Steve Diller) of Palmer Lake, CO; brothers, Dean B. Jr. (Jay) (Sue) Probert of Washington, WV, Eric (Mitzi) Probert of Steubenville, OH; nephews, Kyle and Carson Probert, nieces, Amber Burns, Jessica Maradiaga and Lindsay Armitage.

Susan graduated from SHS in 1969. She attended Miami University of Oxford, OH, and the University of Madrid in Spain. She worked as an administrative assistant at Girard Bank in Philadelphia, PA, for several years and later moved back to Steubenville to care for her aging parents.

While in Steubenville she completed her masters at Franciscan University and worked as the director of the Adult Literacy Council and for Voto Manufacturing, from which she retired in 2010. Susan was very active in the Steubenville community, volunteering her time and energy with a variety of groups and projects, ranging from the Historical Society, Kiwanis Club, to serving as president of the Revitalization Project. She loved to read and was an avid gardener and member of the Steubenville Garden Club.

After a long-distance relationship, Susan married Neal Watzman of Cincinnati, OH, on October 17, 2015, and they traveled extensively throughout the United States and internationally. Susan will be sorely missed by her family and friends. A memorial was conducted for her in Cincinnati, OH, on Nov. 4, 2017. In her memory, donations may be made to one of her favorite Steubenville pastimes: the Grand Theater, Historical Society, or Adult Literacy.
