Joseph McGrogan

Joseph William “Bud” McGrogan, 85, of Weirton passed away Monday, June 11, 2018, in Weirton Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 2, 1932, in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late James Frances and Catherine Smith McGrogan.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann (Julian) McGrogan, on June 4, 2016; a son, Joseph W. McGrogan, Jr.; and brother, James William McGrogan.

With 42 years of service, he retired from the tin mill department of Weirton Steel. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church and the Midway VFW. From 1951-1953, he served in the U.S. Army Paratroopers with the 187th Airborne R.C.T. in Japan and Korea.

He dedicated his life to his family and any other persons in time of need.

Mr. McGrogan is survived by his daughter-in-law, Paula A. (Rocchio) McGrogan of Weirton; step-son, John “Neil” Hughes of Rhode Island; grandchildren, Amber Nicole and Rachel Lauren McGrogan and Joseph Anthony and Holly Michelle Hughes; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-6:30 p.m. at Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main St., Weirton, WV, where funeral services will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. The Rev. Fr. Harry Dunn will preside.

The West Virginia National Guard and the American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the conclusion of the service. Interment will be private at Saint Paul’s Cemetery, Weirton.
