Anthony Shreve

Anthony “Tony” L. Shreve, 79, of Steubenville, OH, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Valley Hospice Care Center North, Steubenville, OH, with his family by his side.

Anthony leaves behind his wife and the love of his life, Karen Zorne Shreve of 33 years. His love of service, dedication and looking for ways to make this world better will live on through his four children Tony (Michelle) Shreve of Plum Boro, PA, Greg (Gretchen) Shreve of Cumming, GA, Lisa (Ernie) Graham of Irwin, PA and Jennifer (P.J.) Berkey of Wintersville, OH, as well as his grandchildren Amanda and Grayson Shreve, Alisha (Andrew) Howard, Ashley (Vince) Holbrook, Sydney and Michael Graham, Katie and Makayla Shreve, Bradley, Kasyn and Gianna Berkey and great grandchildren Sawyer and Iris Holbrook and Ryan Howard. He is also survived by his brother Tom (Sandy) and many nieces and nephews.

God forever changed this world on June 16, 1939 when Tony was born to the late Harry Wayne and Frances Marie (Ostendorf) Shreve in Martins Ferry, OH.

After graduating from Wilkinsburg High School with scholarships for football to Tulane, New Orleans and others, Tony decided to follow in his father’s path and began his journey as an electrician. His passion for the trade is what kept him involved and at the forefront of this field for over 60 years.

Tony held office in the I.B.E.W. Local Union 246, served in the J.A.T.C. for the last 42 years, was Chairman of the Steubenville Division of N.E.C.A., a member of North Central Ohio Board of Directors, President of the Chapter since 1986, appointed to the State of Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board in 1992, reappointed by the Governor every 3 years since elected to the Academy of Electrical Contracting, and became Training Director of Local Union 246 Apprenticeship Program in 1998. In 2011, Steubenville Electrical Apprenticeship dedicated and named the Annex to the Training Center the Anthony L. Shreve Annex.

Tony was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Assistant Executive Director of St. John’s Arena, Business Manager of Steubenville Post 33, American Legion Baseball team for 18 years, appointed to Jefferson Technical College Board by the Governor of the State of Ohio in 1989 and served for 20 years.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Mosti Funeral Home, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville.

The funeral liturgy with Mass will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church; Fr. Michael Gossett will celebrate.

Entombment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

A vigil service will be Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.
