More good economic news

The Weirton area received some more good news this week with an announcement by officials with rue21.

Speaking before the members of the Rotary Club of Weirton, Tom Winters, the senior director of distribution for the clothing retailer, made two big announcements which we hope make our residents happy.

Later this year, rue21 will launch an e-commerce division which will be based out of its distribution center in Weirton. This will be a new type of doing business for the company, and we’re sure it will open them up to new markets around the country and possibly even the rest of the world.

E-commerce, or Internet sales, is something available by many retailers these days. It’s big business and, anymore, it’s something almost all industries need to look into as our world continues to become more interconnected through technology.

With the launch of the new division also comes the second piece of good news; rue21 plans to create approximately 40 new jobs.

This will be on top of the new jobs already planned following the expansion of the distribution center last year.

The decision was only made within the last few weeks, according to Winters, and we’re glad it was. The company has shown a lot of faith in the Weirton community in recent years, and we thank them for it and for allowing Weirton to be such a big part of their future.

Little by little good things are happening for our area that will turn our economy around.

It may take some time and might not even be easily noticed, but it is happening.
