Festival will help our area shine
The area surrounding Hollywood City Center will come alive Sunday when what has become a summer tradition is again renewed.
The event is the Stars and Stripes Concert and Festival, and whether you are looking to enjoy some great music, stroll through a classic car show or just relax with your friends and neighbors, the third-annual event features activities that should appeal to just about everyone,
Officials with the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce; Hollywood City Center, the title sponsor; and many area businesses have again joined forces to present a day of fun and activities and help residents from around the Tri-State Area celebrate our nation’s 237th birthday.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at noon at the Harding practice facility. That’s also the location of the family fun zone, which will be open until 5 p.m.
That area will include many attractions and a wide variety of food and nonfood vendors. The Dialed Action Sports Team BMX stunt bikes are scheduled to perform shows at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., as well. Costumed mascots from area businesses are expected to be on hand, as will the First National Bank balloon. A car show is scheduled to be held in the Harding Middle School parking lot.
Adults will be able to relax in the beer corral in the parking lot in front of the Kroger store. Local favorite Rose Angelica is scheduled to perform for patrons there.
Best of all, there will be no charge to enter the fun zone.
When evening arrives, the attention will shift to Harding Stadium for an evening of entertainment, beginning at 5:30 p.m. when the Wheeling-based Joseph Sisters take the stage. The Todd Jones Band is scheduled to perform at 6:45 p.m., with nationally known headliner Phil Vassar performing at 8:30 p.m.
Following the concert, at approximately 10 p.m., Steubenville’s annual fireworks display will be set off from the hillside behind Hollywood City Center.
Many area businesses have come together to help ensure that this year’s concert and festival will be a success. Events such as this can help improve the quality of life in our city and our region, and give residents a chance to show their pride in their community.
That’s why we hope you’ll come out Sunday and enjoy some, or all, of the activities that make up the Stars and Stripes Concert and Festival.
