Golf classic helps Weirton United Way

The Weirton United Way raises funds each year for 15 agencies that work to provide programs for those in need and services for our youth and many others.

While its campaign will not officially start until the fall, the organization holds fundraising events across the calendar which go toward that goal.

One such event will take place Monday, and it is always one of the biggest fundraisers the Weirton United Way has every year. That’s when teams of golfers from around the Tri-State Area will gather on the greens of Williams Country Club for the 32nd-annual Weirton United Way Golf Classic.

Many local businesses and individuals provide sponsorships, prizes and other activities for the event, all culminating in a great experience for everyone involved.

In addition to the golfing, the event will include a Dream Sports Giveaway drawing, which, for $20 a ticket, provides the chance to win two tickets to several regional college and professional sporting events, including Ohio State, West Virginia University, University of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins.

Thanks go to tournament Chair John Kirlangitis and the other committee members for their work in organization the event. We also thank all of this year’s sponsors and participants for contributing and making sure the tournament will be a success once again.
