Media blood day a chance to help
Tuesday’s annual American Red Cross Jefferson County Chapter Media Day Blood Drive means local residents have the opportunity to do something extraordinary that day.
Anytime between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville, local residents can take part in a simple, yet selfless act – giving blood.
The summertime brings a need for blood that sometimes isn’t met. People are out and about more. Accidents happen, and blood is needed. Regular donors are on vacation or busy with their outdoor activities and don’t think about making blood donations.
But it’s important to note that one unit of donated blood can help save the lives of three people.
And that need is great. From the child injured in an accident to the cancer patient undergoing treatment, your decision to donate blood can be a life-and-death matter.
All residents have to do is fill out a questionnaire and undergo a simple health check involving temperature, pulse and blood condition before the donation is made. The skilled professionals who take the donations make giving blood quick, painless and effortless on the part of the donor.
And for those who can’t donate blood, please remember the local Red Cross chapter is always looking for volunteers to assist with bloodmobile drives, help in disaster response and assistance, work in the chapter office or aid in fundraising.
Just remember this Tuesday that donating a brief portion of your day to giving blood means helping three others in need. Please give blood or donate some time to the American Red Cross.
