Tee it up for the United Way

The Weirton United Way is the community’s primary charitable organization, raising funds each year for approximately 15 groups which work to provide programs for those in need and services for our youth and many others.

While its campaign will not officially start until the fall, there are many important fundraiser events across the calendar which will go toward that all-important goal.

You, no doubt, will hear from us many times in the coming months, urging you to find some way to show your support, if and whenever possible.

One such event will take place Monday, and it is always one of the biggest fundraisers the Weirton United Way has every year.

On Monday, teams of area golfers will gather on the greens of Williams Country Club for the 32nd-annual Weirton United Way Golf Classic.

The Golf Classic brings together a great deal of support for the United Way and the community as a whole, with dozens of teams hitting the fairways, and many local businesses and individuals providing sponsorships, prizes and other activities all culminating in a great experience for everyone involved.

In addition to the Golf Classic itself, there also is the Dream Sports Giveaway drawing, which, for $20 a ticket, provides the chance to win two tickets to several regional college and professional sporting events, including Ohio State, West Virginia University, University of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins.

We thank the Weirton United Way for putting together this wonderful event each year, especially all the work by Tournament Chair John Kirlangitis and the other committee members.

We also thank all of this year’s sponsors and participants for contributing and making sure the Golf Classic will be a success once again.

Without your help, none of it would be possible.
