Follansbee ready for celebration

The annual celebration of Follansbee Community Days officially gets under way Thursday, with several days of live music, food, games and other fun, and we encourage all residents, no matter where they live, to take some time and check it out.

Some events, such as the Oil Can Derby and a few special get-togethers, already have taken place, but much of the celebration will continue through the weekend.

Focused on the parking area of Follansbee Park, there will be live bands every night, locally made food, crafts and other items, a classic car show, parade and fireworks.

An extra highlight of this year’s Follansbee Community Days is the inclusion of the Moving Wall, a scaled-down replica of the Vietnam Memorial which travels the country as a mobile reminder of those who fought and died in that war.

Follansbee, along with many other communities in our area, has a strong history of military service, so we are sure the mobile monument will hold extra significance for many of the festival’s visitors.

Events such as the community days celebration brings neighbors together and helps to showcase the pride or an area. Follansbee Community Days is one of the largest such events in our area, bringing past and present residents together and making everyone feel at home.

We thank those who work so hard to put this wonderful event together, and hope to see a great turnout.
