Annual peach festival a reason to celebrate

An annual tradition will be renewed in Weirton Saturday, and it means area residents are sure to have a “peachy” time.

St. Thomas Episcopal Church has been preparing for weeks for its annual peach festival, and we hope to see the community come out and support the event.

The annual event, now in its 50th year, will include many peach-themed treats, including ice cream, short cakes, pies and other desserts.

There also will be hot dogs, roast beef and sausage sandwiches, cabbage rolls, haluski, french fries, zucchini fries and other treats.

As part of the milestone celebration, organizers have invited former parishioners and clergy to visit during the festival, as well as a special worship service on Sunday.

The festival is put on each year by volunteers with the St. Thomas church, but it helps many more in our community.

In the past, it helped to raise money for the church and its food pantry.

These days, the money raised goes out into the community, with organizers donating it to local charities.

On top of all this, the festival is another opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate what we have: Our residents, our traditions and our faith. It is one more way we can show what makes Weirton and our area special.

We thank the members of the church for continuing to put together such a wonderful event and encourage our area residents to come out and show their support.
