Keep up the fight against drugs
Drug use and addiction continues to be a problem in our area.
While law enforcement is constantly working to stop the spread of drugs in our communities, each of us can do our part by educating ourselves and our families on the effects of drug use and how addiction can affect our lives.
One such group working to help spread the message of the dangers of drug use and addiction is continuing its mission this weekend, and we hope the community turns out to show its support.
Never Alone will hold its annual event Saturday evening at the Weirton Event Center, with a variety of educational material, speakers and entertainment planned.
Never Alone began its initiative approximately four years ago, holding a community rally and walk down Main Street in an effort to educate the community on its work and the existence of drugs in our area.
In 2012, the activities moved to the Weirton Event Center.
This year’s events will begin around 4 p.m. and include many activities to help spread the anti-drug message.
Of particular note will be an appearance by former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Dwayne Woodruff, who now serves as a juvenile court judge in Allegheny County. Also set to appear is Joey DelSardo, a former wide receiver for the University of Pittsburgh, who will discuss his own battles with drugs.
This is an important message for our area and one we should all listen to.
Drug use can affect all of us in one way or another. It is not selective by age, gender, race, height, weight or anything else.
And it doesn’t just affect the user.
We encourage our area residents to show up Saturday and show their support for this organization, and most importantly the community.
Drug use and addiction does exist here, it is not going away anytime soon, but the more we all educate ourselves the better a chance we have in combatting this crisis.
