Ladies set to tee off

It will be the ladies’ turn to play a round of golf and help the Weirton United Way Saturday as the annual Ladies Golf Challenge takes place.

The yearly event will take place Saturday at Mountaineer’s Woodview Golf Course, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m., and participants heading to the greens at 10 a.m. There is still time to sign up, and we hope to see a good crowd.

The Ladies Golf Challenge is among the Weirton United Way’s trademark fundraising events, helping to bring in a large amount toward the organization’s annual campaign goal. With a nice day of golf, comaraderie and various prizes up for grabs, the Ladies Golf Challenge is sure to be a great day for those taking part.

The tournament, and other events coming in the next few months, are important for the United Way’s success, and we continue to encourage area residents and businesses to show their support as much as possible.

There are 15 local agencies which look to the Weirton United Way for support each year. Those agencies are the American Red Cross-River Valley Chapter; Boys and Girls Club of Weirton; Girl Scouts Black Diamond Council; Boy Scouts of America; CHANGE, Inc.; the Community Bread Basket; Dunbar Recreation Center; Healthways Inc.; Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP); Hancock County Sheltered Workshop; Hancock County 4-H Foundation; Weirton Medical Center Foundation; Mary H. Weir Public Library; Salvation Army and the Weirton Christian Center.

Without the support of the United Way and the funds it raises with the assistance of our community, many of the programs offered by these agencies might not be available for those who need them.

The Weirton area has always stepped up to lend a hand, and we know this year will be no different.
