Parades bring streets to life
There are few things in our lives that can take our minds off the many troubles we face in our day-to-day world better than a Christmas parade.
It’s tough to see the smiling faces of all of the participants and not get caught up in the holiday spirit.
From the musicians in the area bands who proudly march past in their school colors playing holiday tunes, to dancing schools and homecoming queens; from the lights and sirens of the fire trucks, ambulances and police vehicles to members of local service organizations; and from the local businesses who are showing their support for the community to the arrival of Santa Claus himself, parades offer our area a chance to shine.
Our region’s Christmas parade season gets under way at 5 p.m. Friday when Wellsburg holds its annual event along Charles Street.
Weirton’s Christmas parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, and will follow the traditional Main Street route. On Sunday, Wintersville’s Frank P. Layman Boulevard will come to life at 3 p.m. when the village’s annual parade runs from Riesbeck’s to Kroger.
Dec. 7 will be a busy day for parades across the Tri-State Area. The Eastern Gateway Community College Sights and Sounds of Christmas Parade will bring the spirit of the season to Steubenville at noon that day. The annual parade will travel down Fourth Street and will feature local veterans being honored as the grand marshals.
Also on Dec. 7, Chester’s parade is scheduled to start at 2 p.m., the Wells Township parade is set for 3 p.m., and Toronto’s parade is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., while the Cadiz parade is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
Adena’s annual parade is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Dec. 8, while New Cumberland’s parade is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Dec. 14.
Parades bring our communities together. They require almost a year of planning and countless hours of preparation by volunteer workers, those who build floats and organizers, as well as cooperation among community officials and safety forces.
We hope you will join us in getting into the holiday spirit by attending an area Christmas parade this year.
