Run for the Roses with Rotary

One of the main events of the year for the Rotary Club of Weirton is one week away, and we are encouraging the community to show its support.

The “Run for the Roses” event is set for May 3 at Williams Country Club and will feature a horse race theme to coincide with the running of the Kentucky Derby.

This will be the 10th year the club has hosted such a charity event, which will benefit local organizations and projects supported by the club, including an annual scholarship presented to an area high school graduate.

In the past, the club has provided thousands of dollars to assist local students with their college education, as well as supported local youth soccer programs and many other events and activities throughout the year.

Tickets are $50 each, and live musical entertainment will be provided by the Joseph Sisters and the Groove Doctors.

The Run for the Roses is a great night filled with prize drawings, a Chinese auction and even a hat contest for the ladies, in keeping with a traditional practice of the derby itself.

Several businesses already have stepped up to show their support, and there still is time for anyone else interested.

Sponsorship levels include Gold Club at $2,500; Blue Club at $1,500; Wheel Club at $1,000; Spoke Club at $500 and Friends Club at $300.

We are sure this will, once again, be a great night for all in attendance.
