Zumbathon a fun way to help others

A day of some healthy exercise and terrific bargains awaits participants at this year’s United Way of Jefferson County’s annual Zumbathon and quarter auction planned May 10 at the YMCA.

Area residents can get in a great workout early that day – anytime from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. – from qualified instructors. Not only will they feel great after the workout, but they can feel good about helping our local United Way and the 19 area agencies it serves.

Following the workout, area vendors will be set up for the event’s newly added quarter auction, which will offer great gift items at some very reduced prices for some partakers. A slew of vendors are scheduled to be on hand, including those selling Origami Owl custom jewelry, Thirty-One, Dove Chocolate, Pampered Chef, Damsel in Defense and Tastefully Simple, among many others. And let’s not forget, this event is the day before Mother’s Day, so anyone looking for a special gift may find it there.

Last year’s Zumbathon was a success, and we’re sure this year’s event will be just as popular, if not more.

Tickets for this year’s Zumbathon cost $15 before the event and are available at the United Way of Jefferson County offices at 511 N. Fourth St. Tickets also will be available for $20 at the door. And the cost of the quarter auction is only $5 per person, with each participant getting his or her own auction paddle and ball.

We agree with United Way Executive Director Beth Rupert-Warren that this Zumbathon combined with area vendors involved with the quarter auction allow a new resource of people to unite, all for the good of those served in so many ways by our local United Way.

We encourage Tri-State Area residents to spend a few hours on May 10 at the YMCA in Steubenville.

Get in a good workout early in the day or just come for the spectacular shopping values during the quarter auction. Either way, you can feel good about supporting the United Way of Jefferson County.
