75 years strong
Today is a big day for First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union and the thousands upon thousands who have been members throughout its history.
It was 75 years ago today that the credit union, then called the Steel Works Employees Security League, received its original charter, starting out in a small office space over the Colonial Grocery in north Weirton.
Over those 75 years, the credit union has changed its name several times, expanding its membership, services and reach into Weirton and then into surrounding communities.
Now, as First Choice America, the credit union includes eight offices throughout the Ohio Valley and is noted as the largest credit union in the state of West Virginia.
With just under 1,000 members in its first year and approximately $20,000 in assets, First Choice now has 40,000 members and more than $405 million in assets.
But First Choice always has been more than just a financial institution. Recognizing its local roots, the credit union makes sure to find ways to show its support for our communities, contributing each year to countless local charitable endeavors, participating in numerous hometown activities and standing tall as a centerpiece of our region.
We congratulate First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union on its 75 years of history, and applaud its more than 100 employees, the members of its board and, of course, the membership for your continued work and contributions toward this ever-growing institution and important part of our region.
