Check out the local fireworks displays

The booms, bangs and bright lights of fireworks are just as much a part of celebrating our nation’s birth as the parades, picnics and other festivities, often drawing large crowds of residents to marvel at the shows overhead.

With Independence Day only a few days away, our local residents have plenty of opportunities to check out some dazzling fireworks displays.

Most of our communities will put on their shows Friday, along with other Fourth of July celebrations. From Weirton and Steubenville, to Chester, Wellsburg and Bloomingdale, the night skies will be filled with color Friday.

Weirton’s display will be visible from much of the city’s downtown, while Steubenville’s display will be set off from Belleview Park. Wellsburg residents can gather around the Betty Carr Recreation Site, while Chester residents are sure to be able to view their display from much of the city. In Bloomingdale, residents can see their fireworks near the community building.

Fireworks won’t be available only on Friday, though, as Cadiz residents will be able to view their show at Sally Buffalo Park on Saturday night, Toronto will set off their display at the high school stadium Saturday, and Wells Township will have theirs Thursday evening.

Weirton also will have a fireworks show Thursday following the performance by the Wheeling Symphony.

Fireworks are a highlight of the celebration of our nation’s independence and history, bringing communities together all across the country.

We encourage residents to get out their lawn chairs, find a good spot, sit back and enjoy the evening.
