High school football is back in the valley

This is a special week for many residents from around the Tri-State Area.

The summer season is winding down and classes are resuming at area schools, and that means it’s time for the return of high school football.

Area fans know that this week would not be complete without our annual football edition. This year’s publication, which will be included in Wednesday’s newspapers, figures to be our best to date. As always, it offers a comprehensive look at each of our area’s teams, schedules, profiles of the area’s top players and feature stories that will help fans get prepared for the coming season. This year’s publication is printed on glossy paper and features full color on each of its 132 pages.

The publication also will be available for purchase at retail outlets throughout the Tri-State Area.

If you can’t wait for Wednesday, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the football edition Tuesday, when the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times present our annual community tailgate party. The event will be held in Herald Square Park, at 401 Herald Square in Steubenville. Fans will have the chance to purchase a copy of the football edition a day early, and enjoy a hot dog, a drink and a bag of chips for $3. Proceeds from the event will benefit the literacy programs at the newspapers.

As a bonus, the event, which will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will feature a performance by the Steubenville High School Marching Band at 11:30 a.m.

Complementing our high school football preview will be a separate section looking at professional and college football. That edition will be included in our Friday editions.

The return of football is almost here. We hope you will join us in Herald Square Park Tuesday as we get ready for the season to begin.
