Looking for some shining stars
Once again, we are making our plea.
We need your nominations very soon for the Herald-Star, Weirton Daily Times Community Stars, Presented by Weirton Medical Center.
It’s that time of the year when we are looking for communities’ “stars” – special people all around us who shine for making a positive difference in the cities and towns they live in simply by caring for those around them.
We’re looking for nominees from Jefferson, Harrison, Hancock, Brooke and Washington counties for our upcoming Community Stars recognition banquet to be held Oct. 6 at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville.
Ten people will be chosen to be honored, but that can only happen if you, our readers, send us nominations for a committee to consider.
Nomination forms are being published in the newspaper, so be sure to fill one out and mail it in or drop it off by the deadline, which is Aug. 29.
This year’s “stars” could be as close as a next door neighbor, a co-worker or an acquaintance through a local organization. They may be a fellow church member, an area coach or even a quiet resident living down the street who picks up prescriptions for an elderly neighbor. And please don’t forget our younger generation – a teen or young adult who is very deserving of being honored for their quiet kindness.
These area community stars are always willing to lend a hand and step up and get their hands dirty when there’s work to be done. These “stars” are, in fact, all around us, and it’s exactly what makes the Tri-State Area such a terrific place in which to live. So please, nominate someone today.
The 10 individuals will be featured with a story and photo in a special souvenir booklet and be honored at the banquet with an award.
Since 1998, we’ve chosen 10 community stars each year – and each has gone out of his or her way to help others, with the only reason being because it’s the right thing to do. They don’t seek the limelight; they don’t want attention. They simply are unsung heroes.
We need your nominations now, please.
