Be heart healthy
Those planning to take part in Thursday’s annual Heartland event at the Fort Steuben Mall should expect a large crowd.
The event that features the Community Blood Analysis testing is always popular.
Beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday, area residents can have blood drawn for the CBA test, at a cost of $35. The comprehensive test includes blood sugar, lipid profiles and liver and thyroid functions – in all some 35 screenings. The information from this tests can save lives, making it worth every penny.
Sponsored by Trinity Health System, the event will run until 3 p.m., and it’s there that area residents can undergo screenings and testings at a minimal cost.
What’s been called the “largest heart risk appraisal under one roof” is geared toward knowing just how healthy individuals are.
More than 30,500 area residents have participated in years past, and this 23rd installment of Heartland includes blood screenings, blood pressure readings and nutrition information, all geared toward healthier lifestyles and healthier individuals. And many of those people have received news that they need to see a doctor to correct potential heart problems and other illnesses.
Also, several service personnel will be on hand to discuss services and provide screenings in conjunction with the screenings offered by Trinity Health System.
Knowing one’s level of heart health can mean the difference between a declining lifestyle and ever-increasing medical expenses or being able to remain healthier longer by taking better care of one’s self.
Adding to the volume of people who will be near the Center Court at the mall that day, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will offer its Business Expo annual event, starting at 10 a.m. and going until 6 p.m.
More than 25 chamber member-businesses and organizations will be at the mall, according to Tricia Maple, chamber president. Exhibitors will showcase products and services and be on hand to answer questions, while many will have giveaways.
Please take advantage of the area’s annual health screenings at Heartland and while you’re there, visit some of the area’s finest businesses and organizations. It definitely is worth the time.
