United Way to have a ‘super’ time

It’s only a few days before the Super Bowl, the pinnacle of the professional football season, and the Weirton United Way will be observing some of those festivities in its own way.

On Saturday, the day before the big game, the United Way will present its fifth-annual Tailgate Party at the Serbian-American Cultural Center. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the evening, to include a full slate of food, prizes and entertainment.

Tickets are on sale for $20 per person, but they are limited.

The grand prize of the night is a drawing for a $1,500 Visa gift card, but there will be a variety of other drawings available as well, provided by area residents and businesses.

This event has grown tremendously since its inception, often drawing several hundred attendees each year, and becoming a cornerstone event for the Weirton United Way’s campaign.

The 2015 campaign is ongoing, with officials estimating it at approximately 76 percent of its $260,000 goal.

That money stays local, benefiting the Weirton United Way’s member agencies: American Red Cross of Northwest West Virginia; Family Connections; Girl Scouts, Black Diamond Council; C.H.A.N.G.E. Inc.; Comfort House; Community Bread Basket; Dunbar Recreation Center; Healthways; Hancock/Brooke/Ohio/Marshall Retired & Senior Volunteer Program; Hancock County Sheltered Workshop; Hancock County 4-H Foundation; Weirton Medical Center; Mary H. Weir Public Library; Salvation Army, Weirton Corps; and Weirton Christian Center.

So, if you are looking for something to do Saturday night, we encourage you to contact the Weirton United Way at (304) 748-7213 and get your tickets now. It will be a great night, for a great cause.
