Mardi Gras Gala will be festive
What has become one of the community’s biggest social gatherings and fundraisers will make its return Saturday as the Rotary Club of Weirton Heights holds its annual Mardi Gras Gala at Williams Golf and Country Club.
Each year, Rotarians are joined by residents from throughout the area for an evening of fun, food, live music and more. More importantly, though, proceeds from the event go toward a local charitable organization or community project.
Beneficiaries from throughout the gala’s 20-year history have included local youth athletic groups, museums, the Weirton Christian Center, the Table of Hope, local theater troupes, Piece by Peace and much more. This year, Weirton Medical Center will be receiving assistance, with funds going toward the hospital’s BreastCare Center, which is currently under development with plans to be built near the existing All About Women suite in WMC’s Medical Office Building.
The BreastCare Center first was announced by hospital officials in October 2015 as part of its continuing efforts to not only expand the medical services available for area residents, but also to allow area women to find a team of professionals to meet all of their medical needs.
It is good to see the community support such efforts.
We thank the Rotary Club of Weirton Heights for continuing to put on this great event, and hope to see a large crowd in attendance Saturday night.
