Events center alive with music

Music will be coming from the Weirton Event Center just about every Friday this summer, with the annual summer concert series set to kick off Friday evening.

With a variety of musical acts scheduled, the series, organized by the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau, is sure to entertain just about everyone.

Since its inception, the concert series has drawn great crowds, and we’re sure this year will be no different.

The sixth season gets under way Friday with Legend and the US3 Essence Band, along with a car cruise. That means great music from a couple of great bands and some great classic cars to view, as well. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the music starts at 7 p.m.

The remainder of the summer will feature a mix of rock, country, bluegrass, as well as oldies and contemporary selections.

Independence Day festivities will begin July 1 with the annual performance by the Wheeling Symphony, followed by a fireworks show to be visible from much of downtown Weirton.

Another highlight will be an appearance by the Glenn Miller Orchestra on July 14.

Other scheduled shows include the Silver Eagle Band and Gabby Barrett, June 2; Yankee Gray Band and John Edwards, June 9; U.S. Kids and Spinning Jenny, June 16; Jill West and the Blues Attack and Brett Cain, June 23; De’Ja’ Vu and Twice As Nice, car cruise, July 21; Marshall Lowery Band and Dave Morgan, July 28; Hillbilly Gypsies and Pat Heiserman, Aug. 4; the Joseph Sisters and Kyler Kuzio, Aug. 11; Easty Street Band and Victoria Gerst, car cruise, Aug. 18.

And, don’t forget about the weekly summer concert series that opens tonight at the Berkman Amphitheater in Steubenville.

We thank all those involved in continuing to provide such great entertainment opportunities for residents of all of our communities.
