5K Classic a summer tradition

It is a summer tradition for Weirton.

The Marland Heights 5K Classic is both a competitive race and a community event, bringing together athletes of all levels, as well as families. This year’s race is set for Saturday at Marland Heights Park, and whether you are a seasoned runner, a beginner or just someone who wants to get in a bit of a walk, we hope you will take part.

There is still time to register, either by filling out an application at the Millsop Community Center by Friday, or showing up prior to the race Saturday evening.

The first race, the youth fun run, begins at 6:30 p.m., with the 5K and fitness walk setting off at 7 p.m.

There will be a picnic following the race, with awards presented in a variety of categories.

The Marland Heights 5K truly is something for the community, with many showing up each year to take part or just to cheer on family and friends.

We thank all of those participants, as well as organizers and sponsors, for continuing to make this a successful event.

We look forward to another great race.
