It’s fair time in Brooke County

We’re beginning to experience the shorter days and cooler temperatures of fall, but that doesn’t mean an end for the area’s fairs and festivals.

A great example is the Brooke County Fair, which will run from Friday through Sunday at Brooke Hills Park.

The annual event will feature food, crafts, games and activities for the whole family to enjoy.

It offers a great mix of traditional and new activities. Returning staples including the annual butterfly release, tug of war, cutest baby contest, pie-eating contest, twins day contest and 4-K run will be joined by new events, including the World of Wonders show, a contest for childrens’ battery-powered vehicles and a tournament using the park’s new disc golf course.

Plus, the Brooke County Rocks craze will come to the fair, courtesy of Darla Burns of Wellsburg. Those who attend the fair will have the opportunity to paint a rock and have it entered into a competition, with prizes set to be awarded Sunday.

There also will be carnival rides, Revolutionary War and Renaissance re-enactment groups, a petting zoo, a chainsaw carving exhibition and a demolition derby.

It’s a full weekend at an economical cost — admission is $5 a day, with a three-day pass available for $10 — and a great opportunity to enjoy some of the great things our region has to offer.

We hope you’ll plan to attend.
