Chili cookoff to be a hot contest
Chili connoisseurs are encouraged to make their way to the Weirton Event Center Saturday for the annual Red Hot in Hancock competition, set to feature cooks from across the country.
The contest, to take place from noon to 4 p.m., is sanctioned by the International Chili Society, with proceeds to benefit A Child’s Place CASA, which provides trained advocates for children involved with the court system in Brooke and Hancock counties in West Virginia, and Jefferson County in Ohio.
There is no admission cost, but those interested in sampling some of the dishes prepared must purchase tickets.
Whether you enjoy red, green or homestyle chili, or even have a favorite type of salsa, there is sure to be something for everyone who stops by. There also will be live entertainment and a variety of prizes up for grabs.
Plus, as an internationally sanctioned — and continuously growing — event, Red Hot in Hancock is bringing visitors and increased attention to our area.
This is a great opportunity for our residents to get out into the community on an autumn weekend, enjoy themselves and help to showcase one more event offered by the people of the Upper Ohio Valley.
