Support the United Way

The Weirton United Way’s 2017 campaign has been officially under way for a little over a month, and, during its report meeting Friday, officials announced they already have passed the half-way point to their $260,000 goal.

While that certainly is great news, there is still much work to be done.

While the economy does appear to be improving, both nationally and locally, there continues to be much need in our communities.

There still are people who are out of work, or who maybe just need a little extra help to make ends meet.

That’s where the United Way comes into the picture. The campaign provides funding for 12 local organizations, all of which provide specific services for those in need.

Some of those services would not be available if it weren’t for the efforts of the United Way. That’s why it is critical for the community to show its support each year during the campaign.

Weirton has always been a city where its residents support each other. They “live united.”

Whether you simply want to make a monetary donation, or volunteer your time at one of their events, every bit will help and be appreciated.

The Weirton United Way’s member agencies are the Weirton Christian Center, the American Red Cross of Northwest W.Va.; Catholic Charities West Virginia; Community Bread Basket; Dunbar Recreation Center; Healthways Inc.; Hancock/Brooke/Ohio/Marshall Retired and Senior Volunteer Program; Hancock County Sheltered Workshop; Hancock County 4-H Foundation; Mary H. Weir Public Library; Salvation Army, Weirton Corps.; and Weirton Medical Center.

We encourage everyone to think about all the good these organizations do for our community, and understand much of what they are able to accomplish is through the support of the United Way.

That alone should be enough reason to find a way to contribute to this year’s campaign.
