Mayor appreciative of local state pride

To the Editor,

As mayor of the city of Weirton, I am very proud of the events held in our community over the past week in observance of the State of West Virginia’s 150th birthday. Last weekend, residents came out in support of the Marland Heights 5K Run and the Big Ol’ Booksale held at the Weirton Event Center.

I would like to thank Dennis Jones and the staff of the Weirton Area Museum for coordinating the various family-oriented activities held on Thursday, June 20 at the museum in observance of our state’s 150th birthday and also the Weirton Elks Lodge for 150th birthday activities held on Thursday.

I would also like to extend a special thank you to the Weirton Event Center for the free concert and fireworks display held on Friday. I would like to invite our residents to take advantage of the free Friday night concerts being held at the Weirton Event Center. You will be amazed to see the progress that is being made at the facility.

A great deal of hard work and dedication was put forth by our great community, and these events are indicative of the pride and volunteerism of the residents of the city of Weirton.

George J. Kondik

Weirton Mayor
