Obamacare was misrepresented

To the editor:

The so-called Obamacare death panel was not a politically motivated scare tactic but a harsh and horrifying reality for seniors across America who are now being denied life-saving care, prescriptions, surgeries, lab tests and even access to their doctors through Medicare.

Obamacare’s $716 billion in Medicare cuts to providers is directly responsible for dangerous health care rationing that will only become more widespread over time, as these cuts are making it increasingly difficult and more expensive for private doctors to treat Medicare patients.

Obama and the supporters of Obamacare clearly misrepresented the facts when they promised this law would improve the affordability and quality of Medicare coverage for older Americans.

Obama’s 2014 budget proposal threatens to significantly increase health care rationing, as it imposes an additional $400 billion in Medicare spending cuts and include a provision to accelerate the work of the Medicare cost-cutting panel that seniors now known as the “death panel” deciding their level of care.

I call upon my elected officials to take immediate action to end the rationing of health care under Medicare before this dangerous practice becomes even more widespread.

I expect, no, I demand that Congress work toward restoring Medicare’s funding for today’s seniors and strengthening the program to meet the needs of tomorrow’s older population.
