Event remembers local teacher
To the Editor,
When you hear the names Michaelangelo, Mother Theresa, Florence Nightingale, Tiger Woods and Albert Einstein, you immediately know in what field they are famous. But, if you think of the teaching field, what name comes to mind?
Here in our Upper Ohio Valley, the name of Robert Haworth does, especially in the field of art instruction.
Incredible! That’s the best way to describe the influence of the late Robert Haworth on the young men and women he taught during his over 30 years of teaching art at Weir High School.
In 2009 the Art Committee of the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center decided to honor the memory of Mr. Haworth by honoring his students that have made a name for themselves in the field of art. To date we have a list of nearly 40 of his students that have achieved. Every year we have more and more of his former students that have come forward to say, “Yes, Mr. Haworth was my teacher. He was a wonderful man.”
On behalf of the Art Committee of the Museum, I invite you all to come to the fifth-annual Robert Haworth Memorial Art Exhibit on Saturday, October 19 from noon to 4 pm at the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center, 3149 Main Street, in downtown Weirton.
Our featured internationally known artist this year is the late William Zdinak who is best known for his painting, “In His Image.”
In addition to the art of William Zdinak, and the former Haworth students, current art students and area artists are invited to display their work at the upcoming art exhibit. For more information, call Pamela Makricosta at 304-670-8489.
Incredible! That’s the experience you will have when you come to the exhibit on Saturday, October 19.
