Soccer cancer benefit a great success
To the editor:
I would like to thank and commend all the schools involved in the soccer cancer benefit that was held Oct. 5 at Harding Stadium. Those involved included Steubenville Big Red, Indian Creek, Edison and Steubenville Catholic Central. I especially would like to commend Melanie DiCarlo, who I worked with personally. She and her committee from all the schools did a fantastic job in the organization of this event with the proceeds going to the T.E.A.R. Foundation at the Tony Teramana Cancer Center.
There were so many people who worked on this event and who donated their time. A few of those I would like to recognize because of their work behind the scenes. Events like this could not happen without them: Drew Hindman (sound and video board), Ron Salvino (programs), Denny George (posters and media coordinator), Ross Ivkovich (supervisor and cleanup crew), Chip Hedmond (clock operator), Steubenville High School Key Club volunteers and Pat Hibbitts (stadium manager.) Also soccer officials, Mike Vuchenich and Pete Zanetich, donated their money from officiating the games. The soccer coaches and teams also filled in to do any job asked of them when they were done playing their games.
With everyone’s efforts, the benefit will be donating more than $7,000 to the T.E.A.R. foundation.
Thank you to all the businesses and individuals who donated money and items for all the schools’ baskets and the Chinese auction.
Congratulations to all who were involved for a great community day.
