Abandoned dog leaves questions

To the editor:

I am writing regarding a person who left a young dog tied up in Union Cemetery.

On Jan. 29, I was driving into Union Cemetery, and after crossing the stone bridge, I noticed a black dog on the left side tied to a tree with an orange cord. I went to the caretaker’s house and the other building and, finding no one, I called the police.

The police came and I was told that they couldn’t do anything and would have to call the pound the next day and they would take care of it. I asked the police if I could give the dog some cat food I had just bought and was told it was OK. The dog was very hungry and friendly.

My questions to the person or persons involved are why would you treat an animal this way without food, water and freezing out in the cold? How would you feel if that dog was you?

We are taught to love all people and animals alike, but it just goes to show that there are people who, if they disrespect animals, more than likely disrespect their fellow man. Animals are like people – they have rights. if you didn’t want the dog, then why did you get it in the first place?

In the Bible, we are taught to love one another no matter what the circumstances. I forgive you, and the dog forgives you. I just hope the dog finds a good home with loving, caring people.
