Week honors volunteers
To the editor:
National Volunteer Week, April 6-12, is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in service to their community.
I would like to recognize and say “thank you” to the 94 dedicated senior volunteers enrolled in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Jefferson County. On behalf of our board of directors, office staff and volunteer site managers, we sincerely appreciate the difference you make every day.
Our senior volunteers graciously gave more than 12,000 hours to 19 area nonprofit agencies last year, addressing issues such as tutoring, economic development, companionship, health education, literacy, food security and community cleanup.
Through RSVP seniors are connected and matched with the appropriate volunteer opportunity, based on their skills and life-long experiences. This allows a greater impact, and builds a strong relationship between our program and the nonprofit sector. We are committed to uniting people of different backgrounds, talents and skill levels to the opportunities available in their community and we strive to inspire, equip and mobilize volunteers to take actions that will strengthen and change their community.
If you would like information about RSVP, call (740) 346-0771 and learn more about the opportunities available.
And again, thank you RSVP volunteers … you are an amazing team.
