Volunteers’ efforts appreciated

To the Editor,

As mayor, I would like to thank the many individuals who volunteered their time and work in helping to clean up debris in the city of Weirton on Saturday, July 12, 2014.

Areas of the city that were cleaned were Harmon Creek Road (between Cove Road and Route 22), Colliers Way from Route 22 to the Serbian-American Cultural Center, Field by Chico Fiesta and Marathon Gas on Pennsylvania Avenue, Potomac Avenue to Kmart, Freedom Way and Birch Drive and the bottom of Marland Heights hill.

The efforts of Richard Lamp and Marcus Weigel are to be commended, as they are responsible for the organization of this cleanup. A very sincere thank you to all volunteers who came out for this project.

Sponsors for this event were Marsh’s Hardware for gloves, Lion’s Club for hot dogs, plates and condiments, Gio’s Restaurant for rigatoni, West Virginia Department of Highways for garbage bags and Dan Greathouse for the use of the Weirton Event Center.

George J. Kondik

Mayor of Weirton
