Military banner program successful

To the Editor,

The Weirton Military Banner Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all the veterans and their families for participating in the wonderful Military Banner project started this summer in the city of Weirton.

To date, families have honored 275 of the finest military veterans from every branch of service in this country. The banners will hang throughout the city from the end of May (Memorial Day) until November (Veterans Day) each year, and Weirton veterans can join the program at any time. It has been such an honor and a privilege to meet and talk with many of the veterans and their families, and hear of the experiences that they have had throughout the years. I think most would agree that having someone serve in the military brings a sense of pride and honor to one’s family!

As a community, we can be very proud of the many men and women who have worn their uniforms to serve our country, to protect, in war, in peace and in times such as these. For this reason and many others, we will proudly stand, we will remove our hats, and we will hold our hands firmly over our hearts., and listen as the national anthem is being played, any time, anywhere, for any reason!

Thanks to the American Warriors:

From the colonists, who rebelled,

to the soldier of today.

My thanks, be to you,

I know not what to say.

Since the words I do not have,

to give the tribute that is due,

So a simple heartfelt thanks,

sincerely I give to you.

Thanks to our American heroes,

whose devotion is second to none,

Whose courage and braveness alone

caused many battles to be won.

Only because of you and the price

you willingly did pay,

Only because of you,

Old Glory still flies today!
