Spring Fling a great thing for Weirton

To the Editor,

Today it seems like the news is concentrated on bad news. I would like to bring attention to some good news.

For some 36 years, Duke Horstemeyer and the Kiwanis Club of Weirton have sponsored a special day for the challenged people in our area. We serve them, feed them, entertain them, they sing and dance the night away and everyone gets a gift to go home with.

It is a great, heart-warming event.

About 23 years ago, my wife and I have the privilege of co-chairing the event. We call it the “Spring Fling.” We do this with a lot of help from our community.

We would like to thank the following:

Undo’s, Bo and staff, Sam and Winkie Kusic, Tom and Gerry Banketas, Diana Durst and the Weirton Woman’s Club, Heather Hayes of the Inn at Wyngate, Miki Marino, George Kondik, Ron Greer, Mark Kaczmarek, Debbie and Rick Witkowski, Judy Icuss, The Joseph Sisters, Weir High Key Club, Tim McCoy and WTOV9, The Weirton Daily Times, Hancock County Sheltered Workshop staff, Hancock County Opportunity Center staff and a special shout out to the Knights of Columbus who were with us from the beginning until they closed, and the Serbian Center who were also with us until they closed.

We are already planning next year’s “Spring Fling” which will be a “Roll and Rock Hop” theme.

Spread the love.
