Yes, some are hypocrites

To the Editor,

Some people are indeed hypocrites, I agree with the writer of the letter on this point. However, this is where we become divergent. (Some people are hypocrites,” June 4.)

Who are these hypocrites? My contention is that the writer of this piece of crap is one of the biggest hypocrites we could possible encounter.

In the writer’s arrogant explanation of President Johnson’s 1964 Civil Rights Act, he leaves a glaring omission, either with the intention to mislead or the ignorance of one who has a very weak grasp on American history and an even weaker grasp on reality.

He states that only 63 percent of Democrats voted in favor, while 80 percent of the Republicans did so. What he doesn’t mention is that nearly 60 years ago, the Southern Democrats were a large contingent of that party. He also fails to mention the Southern Strategy. Nixon and Goldwater used it as a wedge and pry bar against the Democratic Party.

The Republicans used the Civil Rights Act to lure racist southern Democrats from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party. Johnson knew this was happening but still did the right thing by supporting this legislation. Johnson remarked at that time, “There goes the South for a generation.”

The racist Southern Democrats became the racist Southern Republicans and remained that way for many decades, some to this very day. Where Johnson went wrong was his estimation that the South would only be lost for one generation.

The writer mentions the reconstruction acts which happened around 1865-1870 and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and goes no further in his argument for good reason. Five decades and change have gone by since Republicans were in favor of rights for black people on that scale.

You will have to forgive me for quoting Janet Jackson when I write, “What have you done for me lately?”

Enough about that lie of omission or just plain ignorance of history. Take your pick –it is either one or the other.

From another letter I quote, “Trump seems to be an inelegant clod with little tact and an achingly insufficient filter between his brain and his mouth — living proof that money cannot buy class.”

I can agree. The quote continues, as I paraphrase, it’s his gruff bluntness and genuine sincerity. Once again, I diverge. It’s a fact that Trump lies all the time.

From President Obama being a Kenyon to “I never asked Comey to let Flynn be,” 90 percent of what comes out of his mouth is a lie.

I think that obstruction of justice is an impeachable offense. Remember “Tricky Dicky” Nixon?

I would go on to name the Russian mob and KGB connections that Trump has, but I have less than 100 words available.
