A true guardian angel

To the Editor,

Let me start by saying a special thank you to all the angels who take of their own time and money to feed all so many ferals — know there is a special place in heaven for you. My story reflects a guardian angel who crossed our path this past weekend. We saw him behind the Fujiyama restaurant in Weirton. He was the Pied Piper, only with food. This is where my story begins

Bob Lewis is a Vietnam veteran who lost his leg in the war, but that’s another story. He went without food for three days praying to God he would do his best to help anyone to never be hungry. His love for cats has brought him to locations on a daily bases. The trunk of his car is loaded with food to warm the tummies. Oh yes, he buys $65 with of groceries daily for the ferals. You do the math. People ask him why he does this and his reply is, “When was the last time you didn’t have three meals a day?”

He isn’t happy that local politicans are not helping. I told Lewis that I guess folks have forgotten that they are the reason we have too many ferals. After all, if owners would have their pets spade or neutered, there wouldn’t be a feral cat. I live next to Brooke County Landfill, where one of the workers feeds the ferals that folks drop off instead of taking them to a shelter. Yes, we have a problem that’s growing and growing. Are we going to leave this to guardian angels to give their time and money? I’m so thankful for people like Lewis and his band of brothers and sisters. I feel they can’t win this battle without help. Remember, if you see one of these serious guardian angels out feeding ferals, remember the last time you went without food.
