What makes the holiday special

By now, our shopping is complete, meal plans are finished and gifts are at least close to wrapped.

Maybe you’ve been watching a few movies, or going to see some lights, or having dinner with friends.

While we get so wrapped up in the hustling and bustling of this holiday season, we need to take some time to remember what is important.

It’s not about the gifts, or the commercial aspects. It’s about those who are important to us. We need to remember to spend time with them; to let them know they are important.

This is a time to reconnect with those who may have drifted away.

Whether it’s through the sending of a Christmas card, a phone call, a text message or an e-mail. We should all reach out to someone we’ve been thining about.

It’s also a time to reach out and help others.

We may not always be able to give much, but if we can give something to help someone, we should make that effort.

As humans, we should want to be able to find a way to help others. There are opportunities all around us, whether it be making a meal for a neighbor, putting some money in the red kettles for the Salvation Army or donating some unneeded clothing.

Hold a neighborhood food drive or volunteer your time at a local charity.

This is the season of giving. It’s a time to cherish those we love and reach out to those who might need love.

There’s a lot of negativity in the world today. There are many naysayers, who question efforts to bring something positive.

This time of year, more than any, should remind us why it is important to try and find those signs of positivity.

Try to find the good things that make you smile. Try to find ways to brighten someone else’s day.

Make a difference in someone else’s life.

No matter your background, remember the meaning behind this time of year, and find even some small way to show it to others.
