Where to begin?

August 24, 2010 - Angelina Dickson

I have so much to say that I'm not quite sure I where to begin...

I should start by saying I am so excited about being able to blog. I've been working for the Weirton Daily Times for nearly two years, the best two years of my life thus far, and for a while was avoiding the idea of writing a column or blog, but after getting used to the idea of it I couldn't be happier that I get to write it.

Now, what to say... I know that I have a bio up on here but I think my initial blog will be dedicated to introducing myself. I'm 24 years old and forever a work in progress. I was born in Canton, Ohio and grew up on the outskirts in places like Minerva, Ohio.

I moved to Weirton when I was about 8 and lived here ever since. I graduated from Brooke High School in 2004. After graduation, I did not go to college, but worked for a while until I decided I needed a change in my life. I moved to Clinton, Iowa where I attended Ashford University.

It was turning point of my life for the better. I found myself in a place where I didn't know anyone. I worked at the library, in the school kitchen and for the campus newspaper. The only sad part was that I did not complete my education because I came home to my family who was working to care for my dying grandfather.

I found some odd jobs here and there until I was lucky enough to see an opportunity for my dreams to come true with the Weirton Daily Times. I had wanted to write for a newspaper since I can't even remember and was blessed with a chance to do so.

I am approaching my two year anniversary with the Weirton Daily Times on October 3 to be exact and I can honestly say I still look forward to coming to work every day. I have seen my hometown come together and do so many great things over these two years that have warmed my heart and opened my eyes and I hope to be able to do this for many decades to come.
